Ah, summertime. Long days. Warm weather. Pool parties and beach getaways. It’s easily my favorite time of year and as soon as the temperatures start rising, my heart starts to feel just a little bit lighter. But, it’s also a time of year where it’s a whole lot easier to get dehydrated and that’s one surefire way to lose all those happy summer feels fast. Drinking lots of water during the warmer months is most definitely important, but I have a tendency to get a little bored with plain water, so I like to throw in the occasional mocktail here and there just to mix things up and this is one of my absolute favorites. With ultra-hydrating watermelon (what says summertime more than watermelon?!), zesty lime, and refreshing ginger, this Watermelon Limeade Soda is a nourishing and delicious way to stay cool. It’s also ridiculously easy to make—here’s how…
Ingredients
- Watermelon (to make puree or juice)
- Califia Farms Ginger Limeade or limeade of choice
- Sparkling water or club soda
- Ice
- Limes (optional)
Directions
If you’re using fresh, whole watermelon to make the puree, cut the watermelon into chunks and place in a high-powered blender. Blend on low for 10-15 seconds or until most of the watermelon chunks have been at least partially pureed. If your blender has a pulse setting, you may need to pulse it a few times to get the pieces to catch on the blades. I used the tamper tool that came with my vitamix to gently push the watermelon into the blades until all of the watermelon seemed to be blending easily. Continue blending on high until the mixture is smooth and then pour ingredients into a pitcher and refrigerate until chilled. (I love the watermelon pulp in this recipe, but if you want a smoother consistency, you can strain out the pulp using a fine mesh strainer. Some grocery stores carry watermelon juice bottled as well if you want to make the process super easy!)
To make the drink, fill a glass half full with ice. Add chilled, pureed watermelon to glass to fill the bottom quarter of the glass. Then add limeade until the glass is 2/3 full and top off with sparkling water or club soda. Garnish with lime wedges or slices and enjoy!
